Derived from the artist’s original artwork from her latest exhibition “I’m a Mum?!”, MOTHER! documents Red Hong Yi’s personal experience of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery. The stitched text and embroidery across the belly reference c-section sutures, while handwritten embroidered notes surrounding the body print reflect thoughts recorded before and after giving birth. Elements such as supplements, muslin cloths, and diapers are subtly embedded throughout the composition, with the work presented on raw canvas to evoke vulnerability and intimacy.

Executed in oil pastel across a grid of six prints, the layered doodles flow across each composition as though drawn over a single surface. Inspired by the spontaneous drawings Hong Yi creates with her son Micah, the imagery includes rockets, planets, excavators, airplanes, alligators, fruits, and other objects from his current obsessions- reflecting the artist’s experience of rediscovering the world through her child’s eyes.
